Welcome to the 8th grade Special Day Class in Maclay Middle School! I teach United States History, Science, English Language Arts and Algebra Rediness. My goal is to support and facilitate my students academic learning and their understanding of the world around them.

Maclay Middle School Schedule Overview

Our school day starts at 7:57 AM and ends at 2:59 PM on Monday, Wednesday, Thrusday and Friday. Each Tuesday, we have a shortened day, classes start at 7:57 AM and end at 12:59 PM with lunch following. Additionally, there are several after-school programs for our students. If you are interested in learning more about these programs, please contact our Connections Office in room 43.

In our school, each class is 80 minutes long. This allows our students more time to master important academic concepts and participate in electives such as music and art each report card period. Our "Homeroom" period is now lengthened to 37 minutes so we provide our students with either enrichment or intervention classes.
  • An "Enrichment Class" engages our students in subject-specific learning activities that deepens their understanding and application of the subject.
  • An "Intervention Class" is designed to support struggling learners by focusing on the academic topic and skills they need to improve in.
Our schedule is designed to facilitate each student's success in learning, applying what they have learned and mastering the California State Content Standards.

Class Rules and Expectations

Rules and expectations create the structure for our students to be successful in school. The rules and expectations in my class are based on the behaviors and attitudes that allow and encourage individual and cooperative learning, skill practice and knowledge application in my classroom. Please read the document titled "Classroom Rules Behaviors and Expectations" at the bottom of the page for specific information.

How You Can Support Your Child

Your child has been assigned to my class because he or she has learning challenges. This means your child is bright, intelligent, creative and learns differently. It is important that we work together as partners to ensure your child is successful. Here are some suggestions:
  1. Please make sure your child has a backpack with all the materials he or she needs for school including pens, pencils, papers and notebook or folders.
  2. Have your child read to you for a minimum of 20 minutes every day, then have him or her explain what they have just read.
  3. Help child improve his or her spelling by reviewing their spelling list.
  4. Play math games with your children that include addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

If you have any questions or would like to meet with me, please call the school and leave a message.
